The United Arab Emirates is laying down the Law

April 2016

The Ministerial Resolution No. 137 for 2016 in UAE is a stepping stone towards achieving the Emirati strategy and vision to see the UAE emerge as one of the world’s top countries in the area of intellectual property rights protection by 2021, and raise public awareness of the importance of IPR protection within the local communities.

The UAE will be setting up specialized IPR courts in all the Emirates, even in Dubai and Ras Al-Khaimah, which currently have an independent court system.

In line with this resolution, local judges will get a specialized training from the Judicial Inspection Department. They will be provided with all the procedures and technicalities. This will increase judicial competence in matters related to intellectual property and thus lead to a more effective and efficient dispute resolution.
