The National Intellectual Property Office (NIPO) in Oman has introduced new guidelines that are important for applicants and agents involved in intellectual property (IP) filings. These updates aim to enhance compliance with Oman’s IP laws and ensure smoother processes moving forward.
Key Highlights:
- Direct Powers of Attorney Required: Effective immediately, the National IP Office will no longer accept sub-powers of attorney for trademark, patent, and other intellectual property applications. All applicants must provide direct powers of attorney to registered agents in Oman when submitting their applications.
- Three-Month Grace Period: Agents have a three-month grace period from the date of this notice to update any pending applications to comply with the new requirements. Failure to comply within this period may result in the cancellation of the application.
- Commitment to Compliance: This update is part of NIPO’s ongoing effort to streamline procedures, ensure the protection of intellectual property rights, and strengthen compliance with Oman’s IP laws. It reflects the country’s dedication to fostering a fair and efficient intellectual property environment.
We encourage all applicants and agents to act promptly in line with these new requirements. Should you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
