Dear Valued Associates and Clients,
We would like to inform you of recent significant changes to the trademark registration process by the Ministry of National Economy in the West Bank. These amendments, aimed at streamlining procedures and offering more flexibility to applicants, are as follows:
- Filing Applications Without Documents
Trademark applications can now be submitted without the need for accompanying documents or copies. However, a formal extension letter requesting a one-month period to provide the missing documentation must be submitted alongside the application. The initial one-month extension can be further extended for up to 12 months. For each additional month, applicants must submit a separate letter along with a fee of JD 10 (approximately USD 14). Requests for extensions beyond 12 months will require detailed justification, and applications lacking adequate justification will be denied.
- Suspension of Trademark Applications
Applicants can now request a one-month suspension of their trademark application. This suspension allows applicants to delay action on the application due to related procedures. The suspension can be extended within the deadline for up to 12 months, one month at a time. Further extensions beyond 12 months may be granted if the applicant provides sufficient justification, such as efforts to reach an amicable settlement with an opposing party, lodge an opposition, or initiate a cancellation action.
These changes are designed to provide more flexibility in managing the trademark registration process. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions or need assistance navigating these new procedures.
